General Motors Co. announced today that they are issuing two new recall campaigns. The company will be recalling 473,841 Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac cars worldwide to fix transmission gear shift cables and faulty turn signal bulbs.

The recall affected Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura cars made from 2007 through 2010. The problems some cars have been dealing with are due to the transmission gear position where it may not match the gear on the shifter. This problem has been causing cars to roll when the driver believes they are already in park.  

"The driver would be able to remove the key from the ignition, but the door locks may not unlock automatically and the park indicator lamp would not be illuminated. The driver may not be able to restart the vehicle and the vehicle could roll away," GM said to The Detroit News.

GM dealers will be working towards adding a reinforcement to the shift cable end fitting to help stop that part from fracturing. The recall affects 426,240 cars in the United States, 40,029 cars in Canada and 7,572 cars in other markets.

No injuries have occurred due to this condition with the cars, but four known accidents have taken place because of it. Owners will be sent a letter to schedule a free repair at their local dealer. Those who have already had work done to their car are eligible for a reimbursement.

GM will also be recalling 6,475 Chevy Sonic subcompact cars world-wide due to issues the car has been known for by not alerting the driver to a faulty turn-signal blub. Dealers will be reprograming the incorrectly calibrated module for cars made from May 29 through August 29 of this year.

There have not been any crashes or injures due to this problem, and owners will be notified of the Sonic recall by letter in October.
