Volkswagen News: Car Company To Build Atlas TDI Diesel in U.S., Headed To Russia

Volkswagen has made an announcement that it will continue building Atlas TDI but the cars will only to be sold in Russia starting at the last month of next year.

This decision came after it was discovered that Volkswagen was cheating on emission tests using the illegal defeat device software. As a result, all diesel-fuelled Volkswagen cars will not be sold in the US anymore. Instead, it will be marketed in Russia, according to Automotive News.

Russia is one of the markets for the Atlas TDI diesel that has been considered by the company, according to its head of sales and marketing, Juergen Stackman.

Although the car will be sold in Russia, it will be built at the Chatanooga factory, which was intended for the production of the Atlas and which cost Volkswagen $900 million. Considered the biggest car made by Volkswagen, the Atlas will be sold in Russia in 2017. The latest version to be sold in Russia will run on a 2.0-liter diesel engine .

Teramont, an Atlas version made for the Chinese market, will run on 2.0-liter petrol that has 186 HP and 220 HP. Another option will be a car with 2.5 liter V-6.

While the diesel-powered Atlas will not be sold in the US, Volkswagen will soon release the mid-sized Atlas SUV, which is exclusively designed for Americans. This seven-passenger vehicle similar to Ford Explorer in appearance but with a wheelbase that is even longer than the Tahoe.

This car is made for Americans and will keep the presence of Volkswagen in North America Region, according to North America Region chief executive Hinrich Woebcken.

This car is built according to what Americans want, which is a vehicle with more space, with 18 cup-holders in the spacious interior, and with 4Motion all-wheel-drive-system.

Scheduled to be released next spring, this car is what many Americans who prefer huge cars have been waiting for.
