Toyota Prius To Go On Sale In India By January 2017; See Price & Other Details

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has confirmed that the company is gearing up to launch the new Prius hybrid car in January next year. The Indian subsidiary of Japanese car maker Toyota Motor Corporation, TKM, has already taken the wraps off the latest version in India at this year's Auto Expo.

The new Prius made its worldwide debut back in September 2015 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Toyota Prius 2016 is the first car to be manufactured and released all over the world, with the main purpose of utilizing the company's latest shared platform: Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). Toyota touts the new shared platform's lower center of gravity for enhanced control.

It is powered by a robust, hybrid power-train that comprises an electric motor and a petrol engine. Its 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder DOHC VVT-I motor --- combined with Eco, EV44, and Power Modes --- generates 97bhp at 5,200rpm and 142Nm of torque at 3,600 RPM, according to International Business Times.

Its petrol engine is also paired to an electric motor, which draws power from lithium-ion nickel-metal hydride batteries.

It can deliver an impressive fuel economy of 40kmpl and thanks to a new exhaust gas recirculation system, its maximum thermal efficiency has been enhanced by 40 percent as well, India.com reported.

In terms of dimension, the new Toyota Prius 2016 is 4,540 mm in length --- 60 mm more as compared to its precursor.

The Toyota Prius 2016 also sports an extended wheelbase of 2,700 mm. As far as boot space capacity is concerned, it gets a considerable 502 liters --- as compared to the previous generation model's boot space capacity of only 445 liters.

Moreover, it boasts an array of awe-inspiring features such as a touch-screen infotainment system, a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display, a new automatic climate control system, and a color head-up display (HUD). The car's exterior is also equally enticing --- with brand new LED projector headlights, LED taillights, and daytime running lights amongst other features.

The new Toyota Prius 2016 is likely to be up for grabs for a price range of INR 30,00,000 (about $4359) to INR 40,00,000 (about $5800).
