2017 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive Review: Perfect Smart Car For Daily Commute

In a world where large cities are becoming centers of world population, congestion, traffic and pollution, electric vehicles are now striving as a remedy to these problems. With big automotive brands like Audi, Volkswagen, Jaguar and more racing to launch their zero emission vehicles, it may be easy to forget about those who have been doing it for years - such as Smart. But who can forget the 2017 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive when it is the perfect vehicle for daily commute.

Checkout our review here and find out why the Smart ForTwo will still prevail in the highly competitive market of EVs.

Smart started manufacturing electric cars way back in 2007. That was a small step and was launched in a limited edition. It was not until the third generation when the Smart Electric Drive has become the success it is today. Something that certainly will be extended in time with the new 2017 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive edition.

Aesthetically, the 2017 ForTwo will only receive a few changes including the removing of exhaust pipes and stickers that dictate electric drive. It will still have the same youthful, playful and urban look. Why change something that already works. Moreover for the first time in the history of the Electric Drive, the Fortwo will be associated with all body styles; Fortwo and Forfour and Smart Fortwo Cabrio, which in fact is the only electric convertible in the market.

If we go to the mechanical section, Smart engineers were clear that they wanted to keep the proper principles of the brand. It implies that the space for the battery is the same as in the previous generation. But technology is not the same as batteries for years have evolved, as its abilities, its autonomy (160 kilometers) and its weight (20 kilograms lighter) improved according to AutoExpress.

Finally, Smart engineers have focused on improving recharging systems. Previous generations would take six hours to recharge 80% of battery. Now 80% of refuelling will take just 3.5 hours and if charge with the SmartBox, 80% battery will be ready in 45 minutes as reported by MotorTrend

It seems that the 2017 Smart ForTwo Electric Drive gives the best of both worlds as it has power, affordability at less than $25000 and is just perfect for daily commute in the city. However, the big problem with the 2017 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive is a four-letter word: Bolt.

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is said to reach more than 238 mile and sells for less than $30,000 only. Can the ForTwo beat the Bolt? Will just have to wait and see.
