Even though Nintendo promised to release full details of the Switch at a special event on Jan. 13 in Tokyo, it's done little to stop the swirl of speculation surrounding it. Most recently, Let's Play Video Games' Laura Kate Dale published a report saying the new console will be sold in the UK for £199.99, while a package that contains internal storage, and already comes with a game, will be sold at £249.99.

This is according to two different sources of Dale's, reported Nintendo Everything. These sources told her that London-based store GAME had been privy to the Nintendo Switch's wholesale price, and emphasized that prices were not determined by Nintendo as producers have any control over suggested retail price.

It was also reported that gamers will be able to purchase Switch Pro Controllers from GAME at £39.99. Nintendo confirmed the Switch would hit stores by March 2017, but has yet to announce an exact date.

According to Express, a spokesperson from GAME dismissed the pricing rumors and deferred to the company website, which lists the console under a temporary price of £999.99. This is merely a placeholder for those who pre-order the console and will be replaced when Nintendo confirms its price.

A now-deleted page on the Canadian Toys 'R Us, however, lends some validity to the rumors of a cheaper console. It advertised the Switch at $329.99, which matches the £200 given by Dale's anonymous sources.

The figure is also consistent with past Nintendo releases, like the Nintendo 3DS that launched at $250 in 2011. The Wii U, meanwhile, is at $300 for the basic package, with a deluxe option at $350, reported Gizmodo.

The pricing rumors allude to Nintendo's tilt toward portable console prices, which are generally cheaper, even for their stay-at-home consoles like the Switch. Most home-based consoles launch at above $300.
