Shanghai Reveal: Volvo Unveils Luxury Sedan S90

Premium Swedish brand Volvo is set to compete in the world market after revealing a China-built luxury version of its Sedan S90 and the new S90 Excellence, a "super luxury" model, ahead of the 2016 Guangzhou Motor Show.

The luxury sedan boasts a panoramic sunroof, adjustable footrest, built-in refrigeration compartment,  heated and cooled cupholders and handmade Swedish crystal glasses, reported The Times

In a bid to attract chauffer-driven executives, the most dramatic change to the premium Sedan S90 is the replacement of the front passenger seat with a touchscreen monitor and room for shoe storage. The spacious backseat will also feature foldable worktables.

According to Automotive World, manufacturing for the upgraded S90 will take place later this month in Daqing, China, home to Volvo's two-year-old production facility in the country's Heilongjiang province. Production of the S90 Excellence starts next year.

"The fact that these cars will be exclusively built in China for the global market demonstrates the quality of our Chinese factories," said Hakan Samuelsson, Volvo CEO. He also stressed that China would be playing a very significant role in Volvo's global manufacturing ambitions.

He added that the premium sedans would be the most luxurious cars ever created in China.

The T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid will be used exclusively in the S90 Excellence, while the upgraded S90 will also be available in the Volvo Cars' celebrated T4 and T5 petrol engines.

Smartphone users will also find the luxury sedans catering to them with its integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ensuring easy access to everyday smartphone hallmarks on the sedan's big center display.

In the realm of safety features, the upgraded S90 models come with Pilot Assist, a semi-autonomous, hands-on-the-wheel driver assistance system that can be employed up to speeds of 130 km/h, as well as Large Animal Detection.

The posh sedans will also feature the cutting-edge CleanZone air quality system that makes use of an ionic air cleaner, a PM 2.5 real-time monitor.
