First Look: Jaguar XJ220 Is Brand's First Supercar

Once deemed as the maker of the fastest car in the entire world, the Jaguar XJ220 was said to be a flop and an underdog in the supercar industry. In fact, when the model debuted, reviews revealed that it did not receive the proper acknowledgment and showed a decline in the brand's reputation as a maker of high-performing units in the automobile industry. What made the unit fail?

When the brand launched the Jaguar XJ220, it was not able to comply with the high expectations the supercars industry embodied, especially when fans of the franchise were expecting more from the previously considered the prime maker of the fastest car in the world. Where did the Jag go wrong?

The Specs

Powered by a V6 engine instead of a V12 and a downgrade from a rear-wheel drive instead of an AWD, the Jaguar XJ220 was said to be underperforming in the supercar industry. The engine was also deemed to be a motorsport-derived feature which was initially considered as the fastest running car in the industry way back in the 90s. However, since the McLaren F1 broke the record in 1998, the Jag has not been able to push off competition from the ranks for a long while, reported Car Scoops.

Pricing

Managed by the Don Law Racing from the CAD tool down to the vehicle's body panel manufacturing details, the model was not able to overcome the market since it was considered as reasonably priced on the used car market. In fact, it was labeled as a rare model but was obscenely priced compared to the Porsche 959, Ferrari F40, and the Bugatti EB110.

With a price tag of $400,000, the Jaguar XJ220 was considered to be a flop although it was half cheaper than the $1 million-priced supercars in the industry. Was the engine to blame of did Don Law Racing fail to constantly upgrade the model?
