CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, announced recently that the solar panel glass roof would not be a built-in feature of Tesla Model 3 but an optional feature for customers by the time it releases. Furthermore, Zipcar also announced that they will implement the "No Charge To Charge" promotion wherein those who own EV cars would not need to pay for a recharge.
CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter and responded to several curious potential customers for the upcoming Tesla Model 3 unit who were likewise curious as to whether the made-in-house glass roof for the car would be a given, reported Auto Blog.
As Musk revealed, the feature will be an optional upgrade to the vehicle and would not be a mandatory part of the Tesla Model 3 build. The said option was considered as powered by a solar panel which would make the vehicle more energy-efficient than the stock version.
This was in response to Musk's initial announcement that Tesla Motors is currently creating a solar roof technology feature for future models of the EV cars franchise.
If the solar option would be availed of by potential customers, the model would then be able to charge itself by being simply on the road and sourcing energy from the sun. Despite the introduced upgrade, potential customers were concerned about how the roof's absorption of energy could suffice for longer running time for the vehicle. Musk then responded that the deployable solar shield would be a retractable hard top which could provide more energy for the entire automobile., reported BGR.
Speaking of EV cars, it was also announced that Zipcar would implement the "No Charge To Charge" car-sharing service which will offer free charging from 6-8PM on Tuesday, November 8. An estimated 7,000 vehicles around the country would be covered by the polling.
