Bugatti Chiron: Incredible Technology Makes It The World's Most Powerful Production Car

First revealed at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Bugatti Chiron is a showcase of the engineering and design talent of the Volkswagen Group. Chiron's engine shares the same format as its predecessor, the Veyron, but according to Bugatti CEO, Wolfgang Durheimer, 95 percent of the Chiron's engine is newly developed to achieve 25 percent increase in performance.

Chiron uses a redesigned eight-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, which has four turbochargers, an improved charge air cooling system and revised fuel injectors. The four turbochargers are controlled sequentially by a two-stage system, with two operating at low engine speeds before the other two take over at speeds higher than 3,800 rpm.

Bugatti also made improvements to their charge air cooling system to squeeze in more air to the cylinders. To cope up with the amount of air intake, the Chiron gets 32 Duplex fuel injectors ensuring a proper air/fuel ratio and  allowing for efficient combustion. In addition to this, the Chiron's exhaust is routed to an insulated titanium exhaust system outfitted with two catalytic converters and four pre-converters.

The Chiron is built around a carbon-fiber unibody, which makes it considerably lighter. It has an adaptive suspension system and it is also the first car to have an airbag that shoots through a carbon-fiber housing, according to the Robb Report.

Chiron has an expanded number of drive modes, which Bugatti refers to as an "adaptive chassis." There is a standard Automatic mode, Lift (for driveway entrances and speed bumps), Handling, Autobahn and Top Speed.  The driver can select the first four modes using a dial on the steering wheel while the Top Speed mode requires a special key. Adaptive chassis alters the ride-height actuators, shock damper, electric power-steering calibration, aerodynamic control system, four-wheel drive system and vehicle stability control.

Lighting is handled outside with very flat LEDs that also happens to be made of carbon fiber. This is the first Bugatti with Wi-Fi, should you and your passenger need to handle a merger on the go. 

Durheimer told Auto Express that over one-third of the total production run is already allocated for serious buyers. The Chiron will be limited to 500 models, with each costing at least $2.6 million. It is, undoubtedly, an engineering marvel; an engineer's wet dream. A hypercar set to enthrall the masses--as those with the power to purchase one.
