2017 Smart Fortwo: Arrested For Cuteness! [PHOTO AND VIDEO]

It was a huge change, pun intended. The NYPD used to have Ford Dodges and Explorers. They will now add compact city cars to their line-up.

The shift was initially seen as a downgrade by the majority. Ironically it was the opposite. The compact Smart cars are to replace the trikes (scooters) and not the Dodge or Explorers. Now, it will definitely be more convenient for NYPD officers. The 2017 Smart Fortwo offers AC. A feature that the trikes or scooters lacked.

The idea of having this car used by the NYPD was mocked by most. On-line users have commented on how arrested criminals with big frames could fit into the car. However, the 2017 Smart Fortwo will least likely be used to arrest criminals. It will be used mainly by the meter-enforcement unit.

The car is surprisingly spacious. A feature which still not known whether it is a benefit for the mentioned unit. What set these cars apart as a patrol unit were the addition of two-way radios. They've also added flashing lights, a requisite for all police cars

The car's output can reach around 89 hp with a 100 LB-ft torque. This makes the car accelerate from 0 to sixty seconds in less than 11 seconds. The speed of this car is not worth the mention. The key advantage it has over the trikes, is that it doesn't eat up that much space.

The 2017 Smart Fortwo is certainly a crowd pleaser. Though it may lack the "toughness" image that the Dodge or Explorer exudes.

Ralph Jefferson, an NYPD officer has said that a lot of people say the patrol cars were "cute," Daimler Media reported. This is a very rare reaction given about police cars by citizens. Now will Tokyo come up with Hello Kitty patrol or Kerro Keroppi police cars to match this move? Share your comments on what you think about cute cars!
