Audi A4, A5, Q3, Q5 Drive Sales Up Worldwide

Audi experienced sales growth in all major markets last month.

The company saw worldwide growth of 12.9 percent over July 2011, with a total of 119,600 vehicles sold. This represents the strongest July on record for the company, and continues a year-to-date increase of 12.4 percent, with 852,900 sold.

US sales were particularly strong, up 28 percent from July of last year, with 11,707 units sold. Year-to-date sales in the US went up 18.2 percent over last year, to 76,865.

While many car companies reported sales decreases in Europe last month, Audi saw a 5.5-percent increase, with 60,800 cars sold. Year-to-date sales in Europe total 454,200, a 3.1-percent climb over last year.

European sales figures were driven largely by significant gains in Eastern Europe, which saw sales grow 31.4 percent to 4,800 vehicles. Russia accounted for 2,757 of these, an increase in growth of 35.5 percent. Year-to-date sales in Russia are up 40.1 percent, with a total of 19,320 sold.

The only other European markets in which Audi reported growth were Germany, where sales increased 10.7 percent to 23,712 automobiles; and the UK, where sales increased 8.8 percent to 8,872. Year-to-date sales for these countries are up significantly: German sales are up 7.8 to 157,885; UK sales are up 5.0 percent to 75,060.

In China, July sales increased 19.5 percent over the previous year to 38,900. Year-to-date sales are up 31.5 percent to 267,900. Audi cites sales of the Q5 SUV as especially strong in China, with year-to-date sales increasing 80 percent to 50,170 units.

The 686 Audis sold in India last month represent a 100-percent climb over the previous year's 343. Audi attributes the increase to the Q3 model, which became available in June. Year-to-date sales in India are up 49 percent to 4,686.
