It has been initially announced that the Audi R8 E-Tron, an Audi Electric Supercar model, has been canceled since only 100 orders came up from its pre-order release date last 2015. However, it has been revealed that the vehicle is still a go but will have no numbers attached to its name.
Known to be the most expensive Audi vehicle in the market to date, the car maker announced that it has canceled the Audi R8 E-Tron which had a million-dollar price tag when it could easily be purchased for a value of $164,150 only, according to Auto Blog.
When it released for pre-order last 2015, it had only 100 purchases, which were a bad sign for the model itself. Due to this, the company made the decision to halt the release of the said Audi Electric supercar vehicle.
The company has decided to uplift the halt on the release of the Audi Electric supercar but with a minor change - the name, according to Auto Guide.
During an interview with a British car magazine Autocar, the Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler, announced that the all-electric model would be similar to a Quattro which also confirmed that it will still be released.
The said decision to push through with the model was so the car company could go against the EV vehicles of Mercedes and EQ brand along with the BMW.
On top of which, Audi will also release the Audi A3 Sportback E-Tron and the Audi Q7 E-Tron along with the supercar.
Other competitors of the said model which the company wished to compete within the automobile market were the Tesla Model S that had great reviews so far.
The Audi Electric supercar and the rest of the E-Tron line-up would be flagged under the Volkswagen Group's Modular Electric Toolkit platform whose releases would be announced accordingly.
