Major automakers released the latest US auto sales for September 2016 and statistics show a slight drop - 0.5% percent - from last month despite vigorous efforts of car dealers to offer discounts. In about 1.4 Million units sold, Ford F-Series is still the undisputed best-selling car in America but Tesla's increasing prominence is a must watch as it achieved 64% increase in sales.
An exact total of 1,435,689 car units was sold last September in the US. And although numbers had decreased a little from last month, September's dropoff wasn't as bad as had been projected by car analysts, reported by USAtoday and in fact, the total units sold for the first nine months of the year had been totalled to 13,115,309 which more than the sales of the same period last year.
The Ford F-Series remains immovable in the top ranking of US auto sales. The top three is then completed by the usual player Ram Pickup and Chevrolet Silverado but this time, the Ram pickup successfully outperformed the Silverado making it only the second time in history that happens - the first time was in March 2014. Ram Pickup its sales by 29% and the Chevrolet Silverado has fallen 16%.
The Honda CR-V imposed in the SUV segment impressively increased its rank to #4. This may be the very reason why Honda had just revealed its newest version which is dubbed as pretty impressive by car enthusiasts around. Toyota Corolla also did well and jumped 2 places to #5. However, its brother the Toyota Camry dropped 2 places to #6.
Ford holds the lead among manufacturers despite having fallen a remarkable 8% in sales, that's according to Reuters. This setback that allows Chevrolet and Toyota to be one step closer to the top but the margin is still pretty wide. Mercedes is the top luxury brand at #13 just above Lexus and BMW.
Another newsworthy fact is that Jeep has stopped growing, after 36 consecutive months improving their data. In September, it has lost its ground and fell at three percent as some of its most popular models have lowered their sales compared to September 2015 as in the case of Cherokee (-12 percent), Wrangler (-19 percent), Renegade (-13 percent) or Compass (-16 percent). Luckily, the Grand Cherokee (+ 18 percent) and the Patriot (+ 33 percent) are still doing pretty well.
And the big news of the month for US auto sales is that Tesla improves its sales and achieve a whopping 64 percent. This statistics is expected to even grow as Tesla's popularity increases and the Tesla Model 3 launching gets nearer. It remains to be seen if it can beat Ford in the future.
