First, the 2018 Chevrolet Cruz was named as the first compact hatchback of the company to the US market. Now, it has been revealed the vehicle may be the first non-hybrid car of this day and age that has the capacity of 50 mpg on the highway. Furthermore, the model will also be available in 1.6-liter turbodiesel option.

On top of planning to dominate the compact hatchback in North America, Chevrolet has made the Chevrolet Cruze even more interesting as the vehicle will not only be capable of 50 mpg but will also be made available in diesel.

The Specs

As reported by Auto News, the diesel option of the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze would make it even more fuel-efficient and reduce such for over 20% compared to gasoline engines. Also, the model will be installed with a nine-speed automatic transmission or the option of a six-speed manual.

The MPG Comparisons

During testing, the Astra diesel was recorded to have achieved 55 mph with a six-speed manual transmission. However, with the brand new nine-speed automatic transmission, the car may be able to generate 50 mpg although it would be powered by diesel. In fact, General Models the 2018 Chevrolet Cruze hatchback to be the most efficient and first non-hybrid car to date.

In other news, Green Car Reports stated the introduction of diesel into the Chevrolet Cruze franchise was the company's way of recovering from the Volkswagen mishap. In fact, Alan Batey, the president of General Motors in America, attested the model is a second-generation vehicle that will first be introduced in the market initially as a sedan. However, by the year 2018, the hatchback would be released for purchase on top of the sedan.

At present, Batey did not manifest what type of vehicles from the Chevy brand would be made available in diesel. However, the said 2018 Chevrolet Cruze would be one - more gas efficient and more mpg to it.
