Parmeshwar Godrej Dead: 5 Things You Must Know About Her

Indian socialite Parmeshwar Godrej has passed away on Monday. She was the wife of Adi Godrej, the chairman of the Godrej Group. She was at Breach Candy hospital, Mumbai when she breathed her last. She was 70.

Here are five things you must know about the philanthropist.

Air India

Parmeshwar Godrej was one of the earlier air hostesses in India. The woman belonging to a Sikh family worked for Air India. It was before she met with Adi Godrej. Then she got married and had three kids: Nisa, Pirojsha, and Tanya.

Godrej Family

One of India's oldest and largest companies, it was founded in 1897. It operates in various sectors like industrial engineering, furniture, appliances, and security. The Godrej family is largely the owner of the company. Adi Godrej, the head of the family, is the 405th richest person in the world - according to Forbes. He is worth $2.5 Billion as of 2015.

Costume Designer

One of the least known facts is Parmeshwar Godrej served as the costume designer in one Bollywood film. It was 1975-film Dharmatma. She was good friends with actor Feroz Khan, the maker of the film. Upon his request, Mrs. Godrej designed the look for the lead actress, Hema Malini.

The Heroes Project

She was involved with the Heroes Project. The initiative was launched in 2004. She collaborated with the Clinton Global Initiative and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Hollywood stars like Richard Gere and Goldie Hawn, who happened to be her friends, also came on board for the anti-AIDS project.

A Great Friend

She was various circles of elite friends all over the world. She is known to be a great friend to them. According to filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor, "few friends would go to the ends of the earth for you in times of need." But, Parmeshwar Godrej was one of them.
