Trump Defends Previous Misogynist Remarks: Says They're 'Just For Entertainment'

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has recently made light of his seemingly degrading remarks to women by saying that they were all done in the spirit of good fun.

This was his statement during an interview with reporter Jim Synder while he was doing his campaign rounds in Las Vegas.

Much attention has been brought upon Trump's statements towards women. During the interview, Synder particularly highlighted an incident back in 1991 when he said that women's skills don't matter as long as they have a "young and beautiful ass" while discussing concepts for his show "The Apprentice".

"But you know, you're in the entertainment business. You're doing The Apprentice. You have one of the top shows on television. And you say things differently for a reason," Trump said.

Aside from that, the infamous presidential candidate has had a long history of a spat with women due to his choice of words. He has reportedly called a beauty pageant winner "Miss Piggy" after she gained weight and "Miss Housekeeping" to Latina woman.

Just recently, he has criticized opposing candidate Hilary Clinton for her apparent "lack of stamina" in running a country and called actress Rosie O'Donell a "pig".

He further clarified that such statement was just a response to people who have been vicious to him, O'Donell in particular.

"I said very tough things to her and I think everybody would agree she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her," Trump told the Los Angeles Times.

Unfortunately, these pronouncements towards women have not been helping his campaign. According to Vox, polls from news outfits like Fox and CNN show Clinton having a 23-point lead (at most) over Trump with women voters.

This is despite Trump's move to hire Kellyanne Conway to help him manage his campaign. Conway has been noted to help previous candidates earn the women vote but this time, it seems like things are not working to his favor.

Women comprise at least 50% of the electorate in the United States and if Trump wants to seal a good lead over Clinton, he needs to secure votes from his main audience - men - to at least record-breaking heights while pinning down women. As of now, this seems to be a herculean job up until he changes his ways.
