The Hammond, Clarkson and May trio could be seen burning some serious rubber sitting behind the wheels of the Mercedes-AMG GT, a Z06 Corvette Stingray, and a Porsche 911 Turbo during 'The Grand Tour's' Australian edition.
At least, the latest teaser video that the ex-'Top Gear' team has come up with points to just such an eventuality. The video was also released in the Live Australia YouTube channel belonging to Richard Hammond. Then again, the latest video can also be considered to be a continuation of a short video clip depicting the three actually driving the three supercars.
Interestingly, that video, just 16 seconds of it was released right after they had run into trouble with the BBC and about a month before they announced their teaming up with Amazon. That is almost a year back and the latest video has them showing seeking a test driver who would hot lap the three cars mentioned above, as Carscoops reported.
Their search did yield results though perhaps not of the most desirable type. That is not because the chap didn't have enough experience driving hot cars. Rather, he wasn't found to be doing particularly well off lately, with his worn out shoes being ample proof of that.
With the driver found, the three middle-aged hosts then debated what would be the perfect name to call him. Clarkson's proposal to call him as The Stog didn't go down well so that the three eventually decided to call him as The Ben Collins. The reason, as Richard Hammond stated, is simply because he, in reality, is Ben Collins.
For the uninitiated, Bill Collins happens to be the racing driver who played the role of the Stig in 'Top Gear' before being ousted for revealing his true identity in his autobiography, 'The Man in the White Suit' in 2010.
As Gizmodo speculated, it remains to be seen though is that whether The Stig, or rather, Ben Collins will be a regular in the 'The Grand Tour' scheme of things or it will be a one-off showing. That he returns to his dilapidated resting place post the brief driving stint keeps the suspense going.
