The new 2017 Silverado HD, equipped with the Duramax 6.6-liter turbo V8, is one monster of a truck; and Chevy has hit upon an innovative way of showcasing its awesome capabilities. That involved hauling a massive 40 X 80-foot American flag around Texas Motor Speedway, which does speak volumes of the capabilities of the new Silverado.

Hauling a flag of such huge proportions is no mean feat. For one, the truck itself was modified to include a 40-foot mounting in its rear. The sheer size of the flag also meant those couldn't have been deployed automatically. To get around that, there were 20 people who helped deploy and retrieve the flag while ensuring none of that got to touch the ground, Motor1 reported.

Such being the preparations, the Silverado HD ended up towing the flag about 100 meters at the Texas Motor Speedway. That boiled down to four laps of the 1.5-mile speedway, creating a new world record in the process.

In fact, the specially modified Silverado also towed the State of Texas Flag as well, it too being of the same proportions as that of the US flag. That sure makes for one grand spectacle to watch as well as to showcase the capabilities of the new Duramax 6.6-liter V8.

"Nearly everything about the Duramax is new, designed to produce more torque at lower rpm and more confidence when trailering or hauling," chief engineer Gary Arvan said. "You'll also notice the refinement improvements the moment you start the engine, and appreciate them as you cruise quietly down the highway - with or without a trailer."

The new Duramax 6.6-liter V8 also has solid figures on its side, what with it being capable of 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque. Both of that make for a substantial improvement over the 395 hp and 795 lb-ft that the outgoing engine was capable of. A salient feature of the new engine is its compatibility with B20 bio-diesel besides featuring an electronically controlled turbocharging system and Venturi Jet Drain Oil Separator to aid in fuel efficiency, Auto Evolution reported.

For the record, a Silverado 2500 HD backed by the new Duramax engine can reach 60 mph from rest in 7.1 seconds, which makes for an improvement of 0.7 seconds over the outgoing model.
