A computer from Poland has been making rounds on social media for being extremely resilient and productive despite it coming from the 1980s - literally.
In the city of Gdansk, an automotive shop is still relying on a nifty Commodore 64 (popularly known as C64) to help them get through their day-to-day operations, according to Forbes. The said gadget has been useful in helping the shop balance their drive shafts and has never failed them in getting their job done.
The computer caught the attention of the folks at Commodore which prompted them to feature the device in their official Facebook page. According to the post, the computer has been with the shop for at least 25 years and still remains to be usable until now. Apart from that, the said computer was even able to withstand a huge flood that hit the shop back then.
The story of this extremely durable computer from the 80s has been a hit with online users, reports Cnet. To date, the said post has been liked by more than 5,000 people and is shared at least 2,000 times in the said website.
Other users also shared their own personal experiences with the Commodore 64 which further cemented its reputation as one of the best computers ever assembled. Even the moderator of the Commodore Facebook page joked around while talking about the computer's performance saying that the C64 from Poland lasted longer than the company who made it.
The Commodore 64 was first introduced in 1982, with specs ranging from a 1MHz processor down to 64 kilobytes of RAM. Ever since its launch up until its discontinuation in 1994, the C64 was recognized by the Guiness Book of World Records as the fastest-selling computer model of all time.
Commodore International, the manufacturer of C64, was an American electronics company that specialized in the development of home computers. The company closed down in 1994 following a declaration of bankruptcy. Its flagship computers, the C64 and the Amiga series, have since then enjoyed a great cult following.
