There is a new Mercedes-Benz A-Class in the making, one that is turning out to be a lot more exciting than the outgoing model.

Though heavily camouflaged, there are also a few details of the new A-Class that are hard to miss. That includes the extended rear door, which means the wheelbase is being elongated a bit. That again is a sign of the new A-Class having more interior room than ever before.

That apart, the exterior proportions remains almost the same as the current model save for relocation of the side-view mirrors. While the current models has them hosted on to the base of the front A-pillars, the same will be positioned on the door in the new A-Class.

As revealed in the spy shots, the front windshield also seems to have some marking on them which, as Motor Authority puts it, could actually be sensors to allow for assisted driving modes.

Those apart, the new A-Class could also be sitting on the next generation Modular Front-drive Architecture. Referred to as the MFA2, the platform will be both lightweight while allowing for enough flexibility to accommodate a range of powertrains.

That is not all, the MFA2 that also underpins the new range of Infiniti compact cars will also host a few of Merc's upcoming vehicles without requiring extensive modifications. Those include the B-Class, CLA or even the new SUV that is likely to be named the GLB.

Coming back to the powertrain options, the next A-Class are expected to be powered by inline-4 engines combined with dual clutch transmissions, BenzInsider speculated.

The current A-Class was launched back in 2012 which make the new A-Class to be ready for 2018 at the earliest. It went for some solid reviews with the car impressing with its excellent build and superb class leading performance. Overall the A-Class came across as an impressive car in the premium hatchback segment and the new 2018 A-Class will no doubt build on the same all the more.
