2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE SS Establishes Place As King Of Muscle Cars In Drag Race

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE was lodged as the best performer for this year's Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition which is known to host the world's greatest drag races. As GM's sole performer in the event, the Chevy muscle car impressed the audience as it only fell behind for only two seconds against the McLaren 570S model.

The yearly Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition held at Laguna Seca this month revealed that the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE SS model, although placed second, may be considered as the best performing muscle car in drag races.

As reported by GM Authority, although Motor Trend hasn't issued results for the event, they posted videos for eight of the participating vehicles which they probably considered as the best-performing vehicles at the Best Driver's Car event. One of those was the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE model.

Race Results

According to the report, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE SS ran down the quarter-mile with just 12.7 seconds to spare. Although the slowest car managed to clip a sub-13 second time, its performance was regarded as one of the best in the races. It also placed second only running two seconds behind the power-packed McLaren 570S model.

Chevrolet Camaro 1LE SS vs 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

During the race, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE SS model was also compared to its brother in the franchise, the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. The former finished better than the latter during the track-focused stripped down muscle car race. Although the Z/28 costs $30,000 more than the 1LE SS, the latter still reigned victorious during the race, reported Torque News.

The 2015 Camaro Z/28 model won the 2014 Motor Trend Best Driver's Car two years ago which also beat the Aston Martin V12 Vantage S, only falling impressive seconds before the BMW M4 GTS.

At this year's race, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE SS model ran for 1:37.8, seconds away from the 2015 Chevrolet Z/28's time of 1:37.82. With a higher price tag on the winner, the latest model proved it is the better choice than its predecessor, particularly when speaking about speed and credentials for this year's Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition.
