2018 Chevrolet Equinox Now With Diesel Option, Check Details Here

General Motors will be offering the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with a diesel option in the United States. Apart from that, the redesigned model will be lighter and shorter, the company said on Thursday.

The updated model will reach the dealership in the first quarter of 2017, reports Automotive News. According to the website, it will be 400 pounds lighter than the outgoing model and also 4 inches shorter, while adding 3.5 cubic feet of interior space compared to the predecessor.

"It is an all-new SUV from the ground up and one that takes on the industry's biggest competitors with a stronger architecture, greater efficiency and more technology," Rick Spina, the executive chief engineer, said in a statement. Additionally, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox will also provide active safety features, fold-flat rear seats and a 10 percent tighter turning radius.

The website also added that North American buyers will have the option to purchase the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with either a 1.5-liter turbo, a 2.0-liter turbo mated with a nine-speed automatic transmission or a 1.6-liter turbodiesel. This has been one of the company's major revamp since the 2009 model.

But why is General Motors suddenly deciding to offer a diesel option for the new model? The Motley Fool blog believes that this second best-selling model will further gain more buyers after making such developments.

Despite the headlines about the diesel-emission cheating scandal, General Motors has a good reputation for producing diesel-powered engines. Although the U.S. buyers opt for other options, the company believes that offering the latest model would change the consumer's minds because of its good reputation.

As stated on the Chevrolet website, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox might definitely be the car that you wanted.

"The all-new 2018 Equinox is more than just a way to get around. It's the perfect balance of everything you want and need- from style and versatility to performance and safety. Not to mention there's plenty of technology to help keep you connected and entertained."
