2017 Audi TT RS Review: Unique, Bold, Unconventional, Mean And Near-Perfect

Audi will introduce its latest model during fall of next year. But one thing is for sure, it is different from the expectations of what should a sports car be like. The 2017 Audi TT RS could be the bold, unconventional, mean, and near-perfect automobile designed to every car lover's curiosity and satisfaction.

The German automobile manufacturer shocked the public for its 59/41 weight balance, contrary to the standard 50/50 or 40/60 rear weight. According to Motor Authority, the 2017 Audi TT RS has "the meanest TT" compared to the previous models.

What's Under The Hood?

Audi has adapted both the old and the new technology throughout the development of its engine. It might sound entirely wrong when manufacturers have put the engine in the wrong place, facing a wrong direction, but the company was able to make it work.

That engine is a turbocharged five-cylinder, in which Audi has done way back in the 1970s. However, they combined it with a new technology, making it lighter and more powerful.

The process involves changing materials from iron to aluminum which made it 40 pounds lighter. Additionally, Audi has also crafted a new crankshaft with lightening holes shaves, saving 3.1 pounds weight, aside from installing a new magnesium oil sump that removes 4.4 pounds.

Overall, the engine is 57 pounds lighter, heading down to the 59/41 weight balance.

More Development

But that is not all, because Audi continues to develop its parts internally. By doing so, it adds port injection to the existing direct injection to improve low-speed emissions and add a bit of power during hard acceleration.

As a result, Turbo boost improves from 18.4 psi to 19.6 psi. Moreover, variable valve lift on the exhaust side with two profiles are also added. They want to achieve two things: to improve fuel economy and to improve throttle response which adds 17% to the horsepower.

Impressive Performance

Meanwhile, here are the other impressive features of the 2017 Audi TT RS. It is based on the MQB platform, which is adjustable.

Also, it has steering features a variable ratio with a standard 15.8:1 ratio that can accelerate to a quicker 13:1 the farther the steering wheel is turned. More than that, buyers may choose between the standard tires of245/35R19s on cast aluminum wheels or 255/30R20 tires on forged alloy wheels.

Lastly, it has a 14.6-inch ventilated front discs brakes with 8-piston calipers and 12.2 inches rear brake in diameter.

Conclusion

With a starting price of $52,825 as reported by Car and Driver, this all new 2017 Audi TT RS could be the next big thing when it comes to sport cars. The design might be the usual compared to other car models, but its features and specification compensate and stays to its credibility.
