Nissan 370Z Designer Hired At Tesla Motors, Is A Redesign Bound To Happen After Software Upgrade?

Renowned Filipino-Canadian automotive designer Randy Rodriguez quietly left Nissan and joined Elon Musk and his squad at Tesla Motors Inc this week. This is confirmed through his official LinkedIn account where his job already says Senior Lead Designer at Tesla.

After the big unveiling of Tesla's new Autopilot software, could this be a signal of a redesign?

Nissan 370Z Designer

The Nissan 370Z is Rodriguez's most famous design. This catapulted him into one of Nissan's top lead exterior designers where he spent 14 years and worked on the designs of 4 production cars and 5 concept cars of the Japanese car brand.

While at Nissan, Rodriguez also did some freelancing and did the design of the amphibious Icon A5 aircraft, where 2000 orders are already made and production is set to start this year. Klaus Tritshler, head designer at Icon, said that Rodriguez is an incredible and creative car designer and his passion will allow him to go to new heights. As for those heights, Tesla might very well be it.

Tesla Cars Redesign? Probably Not

With one of Nissan's top designers on Tesla's team now, is a redesign bound to happen? According to sources, Rodriguez may not be doing a redesign of Tesla car models such as the Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X, or the Tesla Model 3. His latest work at Nissan, the Titan Warrior Concept and the Titan X D, might be a sign that he will be working on Tesla's upcoming truck.

Watch Rodriguez talk about the Titan in the video below.

Tesla had been clear of their intention of releasing their own pickup truck in the near future and Rodriguez may be the helpful to finally make this a reality.

Check out some of Rodriguez's designs and concepts here.
