‘American Gods' Release Date, Cast & News: What We Know So Far

Neil Geiman's "American Gods" novel has been confirmed to be broadcast as a television series on Starz this coming 2017. With the cast and crew currently filming and a trailer being released, here's what we know about the series so far.

Cast Updates

Recently, it was revealed that the "American Gods" series had found its Jesus Christ in the person of Jeremy Davies, reported Empire. The character was said to portray the bible version of Jesus such as his generous nature towards Easter, who will be portrayed by Kristin Chenoweth. The resurrection story of the Christian God will also be covered in the series.

Joining Davies is Ricky Whittle who will play Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Gillian Anderson as Media, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Dane Cook as Robbie, Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Demore Barnes as Mr. Ibis, Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, Betty Gilpin as Audrey, Ernesto Reyes as the Mexican Jesus, Omid Abtahi as Salim, Fode Bangoura as Back Jesus, and Marilyn Camacho as The Coyote, and many more, reported IMDB.

Cloris Leachman from "Malcolm in the Middle" will play Zorya Vechernyaya along with "Prison Break" actor, Peter Stormare who will play the character Czernobog. Joining them is Chris Obi of "Snow White and the Huntsman," who will play Anubis along with Mousa Kraish of "Superbad" as The Jinn character.

The Storyline

The Gaiman novel-based series "American Gods" will tell the story of old gods of the ancient and mythical times living in the present world and who find themselves going against modern gods such as Money, Drugs, Celebrity, Technology and Media. There would be a clash between the two parties as the old gods would be led by Mr. Wednesday. Shadow Moon, the partner of the main character Mr. Wednesday will be the protagonist in the story, reported Den of Geek.

Production Updates

At present, the cast and crew are currently filming under the direction of David Slade, showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, and the writing talents of Neil Gaiman himself for one episode of the "American Gods" series.

Although the official release date for "American Gods" has not been revealed by Starz, the report suggested that the series might see a 2017 release date.
