Adam Carolla Porsche: Radio Host Buys Historic Vehicle for HOW MUCH?

Adam Carolla has gone on his way to purchase the classic Porsche 935 race car for a whopping $4.4 million, taking his passion for owning Paul Newman's several cars to a whole new level.

The car proves to be a car with such rich history. It was first driven by Newman, along with his co-drivers Dick Barbour and Rolf Stommelen, at the Le Mans in 1979 where it picked up a class win, as well as a finishing in second place overall.

The car went on to compete in 71 more races, which includes victories during the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1981 and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1983. It is also the first and only car from Apple, since Apple Computer wreathed it in racing colors in 1980, according to The Drive.

After almost three decades, the Porsche 935 race car was auctioned off at the 2016 Monterey Car Week by Gooding & Co. Carolla happened to be present during the auction and he initially didn't intend on purchasing the classic Porsche or any car being sold off for that matter.

The comedian even admitted that he doesn't have the kind of money to get the car for himself. But he soon realized that this particular vehicle with such an interesting origin may no longer be displayed in any auction blocks in the future, so he submitted a bid worth $4.4 million and effectively became the car's new owner.

"I bought, in my mind, the Holy Grail of cars, for me in my collection. Which is the car that Paul Newman drove at Le Mans in 1979," Carolla said during a recent podcast of "The Adam Carolla Show". Thanks to the newest acquisition, however, he might have to sell a portion of his existing collection.

Carolla has said that he simply won't let his new Porsche be put on display without driving it around, as he has announced that he will be driving it around the Laguna Sec some time in 2017, most likely during the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, according to Car Buzz.
