A month ago Volvo teased us to its latest truck concept that is said to break records - now it is a reality. The Volvo Iron Knight, an imposing beast in the road - is definitely the quickest truck in the world. Watch the fastest truck in all its glory here. 

The challenge was conducted on a test track takeoff in northern Sweden called Skellefteå Drive Center. Boije Ovebrink, world known truck racing driver piloted the Volvo Iron Knight and has broken the speed record in both the category of 500 and 1,000 meters. The Iron Knight needed to complete two passes for both the 500- and 1,000-meter runs and it gracefully did. Thanks to its powerful mechanical automatic transmission and double clutch I-Shift.

We are accustomed to all sorts of challenges of reliability, strength and control but Volvo do not conform with this and put a 13-liter mid-mounted D13 engine associated with the i-Shift change to the Iron Knight that resulted to a whopping  2400 hp and 6,000 Nm of torque. With this engine, the Volvo Iron Knight should move with ease its  4.5 tons thanks to a power-weight ratio half horsepower per kilogram.

The Iron Knight has achieved an average speed of 169 km / h time of 21.29 seconds. The Iron Knight broke the record of international speed of 1,000 meters from standstill. He also broke the corresponding to the distance of 500 meters, where he crossed the finish line at 131.29 km / h in 13.71 seconds record.

Though the record is still being reviewed by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) there's no doubt that it will be officially declared later that the Volvo Iron Knight is the fastest truck as the previous record doesn't come close to the Iron Knight's performance.

There was never a doubt that The Iron Knight would break records, the question had been how much and with the truck's performance, Volvo showed us that they never stopped innovating their cars to its fullest.
