Tesla Says It Is 'World's Fastest Car Manufacturer': Details, Info and More

Electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors claims that their Model S electric car is the quickest car in production in the world, in terms of how fast it could go from zero miles to 60 miles. According to the people over at Tesla, the fastest production car in the world is the Model S P100D, which could soar from 0 miles to a whopping 60 in a mere two and a half seconds, defeating previous records held by models from other car manufacturing companies.

While they admit that other models of other car manufacturers, such as the Porsche 918 Spyder, and the LaFerrari, which were equipped with gas engines had faster acceleration rates, they are no longer in mass production, and therefore are considered specialty cars, and as of the moment, can no longer be bought brand new. The fast acceleration rate is made possible thanks to the 100 kWh battery pack, which also makes the car range further at 315 miles, compared to the 294 miles of the previous Model S.

The Model X SUV is also compatible for this battery. The chemistry or chemical compositions of the battery cell is still identical, but it had to be tweaked up a bit by the company as a way to have a higher energy capacity, and be able to cope with increased requirements for cooling.

In order for their old batteries to be recycled, current owners should pay a higher rate of $20,000. The starting price is at $134, 500 for the Model S P100D, while the Model X P 100D is priced at $135, 500.

The SUV version is also capable of super fast acceleration speeds, with it being able to go from 0 miles to 60 miles in a mere 2.9 seconds.
