Why 2016 Is The Year of 'Car Recalls'?

If 2016 is the year for anything special, it's got to be the auto recall. We're still two months past half of the year, but millions of vehicles are already being recalled due to various reasons by Ford, Toyota, Honda, Chrysler, GM, Mazda, Nissan, and Subaru just to name a few.

As of today, Mitsubishi and Buick to that already long list. But this time, it's because of two separate issues: a CVT- related acceleration problem and a fire incident that could be the result of some defective installation.

The CVT issue affected more than 82,000 Mitsubishi models including the latest 2016 Lancer, 2016 Outlander, and the '15-'16 Outlander Sport. This issue particularly causes a delay of acceleration, which could possibly be extremely dangerous.

Imagine trying to escape from an incoming car by attempting to speed up to avoid a crash, but instead, the car fails to move. How tragic. The other issue involves 45, 731 Outlander Sport models from 2015.

In this case, an installation clamp on the CVT hose was installed prematurely. This problem could result to transmission fluid leaking, which can cause the car to stop all of a sudden.

To make it worse, if the leaking fluid touches any hot material or surface, like the engine, for instance, the car could catch fire.Buick's problems are the same, but on a smaller scale, only affecting 200 Buick Verano vehicles.

In this issue, it's a misrouted fuel line that could, again, cause a fire if it comes in contact with hot surfaces like the engine. If you're an owner of a defective Mitsubishi, you should already have received a mail notifying you of the recall.

If you haven't got a letter yet but still want to check your vehicle, run it through Mitsubishi's review check.
