Season Of Recall At FCA: Renegade SUV, Dodge Journey, RAM ProMaster, Chrysler Town & Country Affected

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) said it is recalling model year 2015 and 2016 Renegade SUVs in the US in order to fix an issue with the trailer-hitch package.

According to what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed, the trailer-hitch assembly need to have three fasteners on each side. However, the Jeep Renegade makes do with just a single fastener which severely compromises the safety of the trailer attached to the SUV.

As such, the trailer might get separated from the SUV and pose a serious risk to other vehicles plying on the highway.

Fortunately, there have been no such incidents of any crash reported so far.

According to Edmunds, it is those Renegade SUVs that have been produced between Aug. 25, 2014, and June 25, 2016 that comes under the purview of the recall. That makes the scope of the recall to about 9,000 SUVs.

All of it came to light after a customer complained of a rattling noise emanating from the rear of their Renegade SUV in June this year. Further investigations by Fiat Chrysler led to the discovery of the factory fitted trailer hitch assemblies being held in place with just a single fastener per side, Cars reported.

Jeep though is yet to announce a specific date for the recall though once that happens, owners of the affected Renegade SUVs will be required to take their vehicles to the dealers. There, two extra fasteners will be installed on either side of the trailer-hitch assembly.

Owners can also get in touch with the Fiat Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 for more information.

Meanwhile, it is also turning out to be a season of recalls for FCA. For apart from the renegade SUV, the other vehicles that too will make the journey back to the dealers include 2015-2016 Chrysler Town & Country, 206 Dodge Journey, and the 2016 RAM ProMaster.

The said recall will also be bigger than that of the Renegade in that 26,999 units of the above mentioned vehicles will be affected MotoringCrunch stated. The recalled vehicles will be provided with a new transmission pump. This became necessary after it was found that the pump runs the risk of seizing in which case there would be no hydraulic pressure for the transmission.
