Hyundai creates Zombie Survival Machine to celebrate The Walking Dead

Hyundai is prepared for the zombie apocalypse, in some sense anyway. Hyundai is teaming up with Robert Kirkman, creator of the successful graphic novels The Walking Dead, which was recently turned into a well-received TV series on AMC.

In celebration of the 100th issue of The Walking Dead, the Japanese car manufacturer is launching the Hyundai Undead program, which will create an Elantra Coupe specifically designed to fend off flesh-craving zombies.

Designed by Kirkman and fabricated by Design Craft, the customized Coupe will feature barred windows, spotlights, spears jutting out from the wheels and a massive spiked plow to (theoretically) push through hordes of the walking dead.  The Coupe, dubbed the Zombie Survival Machine, will debut at Comic-Con in San Diego from July 12 to 15. 

"I had a good experience working with Hyundai and Future US last year and I thought it would be totally awesome if a fan of the comic were able to win a great new car made even cooler with Charlie's artwork," Kirkman said in a Hyundai press release. "Designing the Zombie Survival Machine was just the icing on the cake.  I'm very excited to see the amazing job they are doing in turning my doodles and ideas into a truly awesome car.  I hope they will let me do a test drive before Comic-Con!"

In addition, the Hyundai Undead program is launching a sweepstakes to give away a black 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT that is wrapped in the cover of the 100th issue of the Walking Dead.  The sweepstakes began June 12, and you can enter for a chance to win this zombie-detailed vehicle by visiting HyundaiUndead.com.

The wrapped Elantra and a kiwi green Tucson will be given away at "The Walking Dead 100th Issue Black Carpet Event" on July 13 in Greco Park, San Diego. The private party will be a recreation of a world infested by zombies.

Comic-Con attendees will be able to have their picture taken alongside Kirkman's Zombie Survival Machine at the Future US booth, which will also feature a Zombie Target practice area and a zombie survival contest.  Attendees may also go inside the vehicle to check out all its anti-zombie features (though one should likely expect long lines for this awesome and ridiculous vehicle).
