Google Executive Chris Urmson Quits Making 'Self-Driving Cars'

Google executive and roboticist Chris Urmson left the team who is planning to develop "self-driving cars." According to the latest report, he is "unhappy with the project."

Urmson is one of the core members and his departure would mean a lot for the group. While this is not the first time that a member quits on the project, many are speculating about the reason behind.

The spokesperson for the tech company Alphabet- Johnny Luu has confirmed Urmson's goodbye. Kindly read the excerpt of the email message below, courtesy of New York Times.

"Seven years ago, the idea that a car could drive itself wasn't much more than an idea. Chris has been a vital force for the project, helping the team move from a research phase to a point where this lifesaving technology will soon become a reality. He departs with our warmest wishes."

According to the website, Urmson decided to withdraw himself from the project after Google hired John Krafcik last year. The top roboticist is said to be unhappy with the latter's way of directing the project.

As per a Google insider, the two had massive quarrel all over the months which made him quit. While a company representative refused to comment on the rumor, Mr. Urmson disputed the hearsays.

The executive wrote on Medium that he is still uncertain about his next plan. However, he wrote that he is confident the "self-driving cars" project is definitely in good hands.

Google formed an exclusive group to study the patent which is labeled as "the research X." The aim is to introduce a new technology of "self-driving cars" that will be autonomous.

But this project is still several years aways from becoming industrialized and commercialized. So the public may need to wait furthermore for a new detail to come up with the promising project.
