To answer the growing demand from mining companies, Australlian automaker Holden Motors recently launched the Colorado LX.
Up until now, Toyota had been supplying about 95 percent of all vehicle for the mining industries and with the launch of the single cab Colorado LX, Toyota seems to have a little competition. Holden's pickup truck, exclusively for all the purpose in mining industries, would be used for all daily purposes such as picking up workers and reaching them safely to the mining location. Since the mining industry plays a major role in the Australian economy, the launch comes at the right time to boost the economy.
The natural calamities too played a very serious role in allowing the Holden to launch the Colorado LX. The natural disasters in Japan and Thailand in 2011 limited Toyota's supply to Australia for more than a year. Mining vehicles were in short supply, and Toyota couldn't keep up with the growing demand. Holden Motors quickly launced Colorado LX..
"In the past we have not had the right vehicle, necessary supply of parts or right service set-up for such a move," said John Elsworth, Holden Director of Sale, marketing and After sales, in an interview to WestWheels. "But we now have a vehicle that we are very confident in and we have already started working on establishing partnerships with service centers in regions like Newman, Port Hedland, Karratha and Tom Price. Toyota has enjoyed a monopoly in this area for a very long time. They established it by providing the right product and setting up a good infrastructure to service that product. We understand that we have a lot of work to do to ensure we can provide the service required but we have already established some very good partnerships and are confident we are well placed to give it a real go."
