Ford Recollects Nearly 271,000 F-150 Trucks Due To Brake Failures

Ford Motor Co. just announced that they will be recalling the previous generation F-150 trucks after investigations about brake failures for three months due to complaints were done.

The company is set to recall around 271,000 vehicles. The investigation lasted for three months by federal safety regulators and it has been found out that the problem regarding brake failure is linked to fluid leaking from the master brake cylinder into the brake booster. The problem has resulted to reduced or the no braking ability of the vehicles as per the complaint of the car owners. Also due to the inability to brake, nine crashes have been reported, Auto Week reported.

The solution to this is that the dealers will replace the master cylinder after the recall. If a leak will be seen, the booster will be replaced, Ford said in their announcement. Ford also pointed out that they are aware of the nine crashes but said that none were injured in these incidents, Auto Blog reported.

The vehicles are said to have a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine. The number of vehicles affected in the United States is 225,012 while in Canada, it has been reported that 43, 682 are to be recalled.

The announcement comes months after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened the investigation regarding 33 brake failures in February. Since February, 74 more have come forward about the problem regarding the 2013 and 2014 F-150 trucks. These complaints were posted on the agency of NHTSA.

One complainant from Arkansas said that they have experienced three wrecks because their vehicle rear-ended people as the truck would not stop. Another complainant from Texas said that the car crashed last April as it did not slow down, Automotive News reported. There will be no charges for the services to be done on the vehicles involved in the recall.

This is the first recall involving the 2013 F-150 but the fourth for the 2014 version of the vehicle. Ford will also be recalling five 2016 Lincoln MKX crossovers in the United States due to the fitting of one of the second-row seats.
