Tesla Model X Races Against A Ferrari F430; Who Won? [Watch Video]

A new video featured a Tesla Model X P90D racing against a Ferrari F430. Although pitting an electric crossover SUV against an Italian supercar is not entirely an even match from the onset, the competition showed how the Tesla Model X’s acceleration is comparable to several supercars.

Drag Times posted a video of the unlikely competition. Unexpectedly, the Tesla Model X P90D won three out of three races against the Ferrari F430.

BGR noted that in the video, Tesla had a huge advantage in terms of acceleration. A Tesla Model X in Ludicrous mode can move from zero to 60mph in a mere 3.2 seconds. It can also cover one-fourth mile in 11.7 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. A Ferrari F430 can accelerate from zero to 60mph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 196mph.

In the video, which lasts two and a half minutes, and featured three runs between the two cars, showed how the Ferrari 430 was no match to the Tesla Model X P90D on Ludicrous mode. All three races boasted of the Model X’s sheer acceleration, immediately creating a considerable distance from the F430 from the starting line.

The Model X won by a huge gap in the first race. The second race was closer, although there was a difference of at least one vehicle between the two. The third race was the closest, although the Ferrari never moved faster than the Tesla at any point all three races. The Tesla’s zero to 60mph acceleration was the most obvious aspect, although the race distance most likely did not cover over a quarter of a mile. Otherwise, the Ferrari would have caught up sooner.

DuPont Registry notes that the Ferrari features a 4.3-liter V8 engine with an above-4,000rpm, but will require utmost precision to reach its powerband as soon as possible. In the video, the driver made a number of errors by trying to accelerate as fast as the Tesla in the beginning. Shifting to second gear too early also caused the F430 to miss the powerband.

Overall, it was a great way to showcase the Tesla Model X P90D’s super acceleration, particularly on Ludicrous mode. The Ferrari F430 was obviously faster, if the contest was based on appearance alone. Tesla won the day this time, which proved that the company makes cars that can compete with the best.

More updates and details on the Tesla X P90D on Ludicrous mode are expected soon.
