Australia announces commitment for driverless cars. It will soon utilize the driverless car technology sooner than expected and Tesla, Nissan and Chevy are speculated to lead the way.
Yahoo reported of how Australia is getting a head start to assimilating new options for commuters. The plan is forecast for implementation in different areas and regions such as South Australia and the NSW.
The goal is to bring the automated cars without drivers on the roads and lanes particularly for NSW within the 5-year range. Even the state's minister for transport, Andrew Constance, predicted at a summit on the future of transport in Sydney Monday said, "We're going to have driverless cars on our streets, in our suburbs."
However, despite the positive outlook and futuristic plans, it is easier said than done because NSW needs to ensure that it has the technology and the tools to do so but Constance believed that it could be done. "If I look at the ways in which we're going to have to change our transport planning, our road networks, the way in which insurance is going to change, all of this is going to happen incredibly quickly and I want us to be front and centre," Constance added.
It is undeniable that technology will transform the way man travel and moves which is why the council of NSW will reconfigure ways and means to prepare for the legislative and regulatory requirements that the driverless cars would require.
Marshable Asia mentioned that although the plan connotes a positive future. However, other sectors such as the transport workers worry about the impact of automation.
The uptake of automated transport will be driven initially by the improved road safety and lower insurance costs it offers and the change will be driven by small steps at first, including automated braking and lane keeping, as drivers can already experience in cars by companies like Tesla Motors, according to the same post.
As Australia integrates the driverless cars, society will see the unfolding of new technology and better ways that Australians travel and move.
