Jimmie Johnson Clinches Historic NASCAR Victory In Dover

For the seventh time in a row, Jimmie Johnson won  the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 series at the Dover International Speedway on Sunday.

The seventh win was a historic one for Johnson, who is now tied with Richard Petty and Bobby Allison for most victories on the 1-mile concrete oval track. Johnson, driving No. 48 car for Hendrick Motorsports, led the pack 289 of the 400 laps at Dover.

"It was a team effort, but I think that 24 was the car to beat but he hand some troubles," Johnson told reporters after the race. "The way we protected the win was on pitroad. The hair growth...it's afro circus. All the characters wear this at some point in the movie. I couldn't resist it today."

Johnson, who drove the Madagascar 3-sponsored Chevrolet, donned a multi-colored afro wig before and after the race. The race results show that Kevin Haravick, Matt Kenseth, Dale Earnhartd Jr., and Clint Bowyer were being rounded out from the race in the top five positions.

Jeff Gordon, Johnson's fellow teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, was knocked to the 13th position after his car met serious technical snags in the wheel compartment.

"We had the best race car. We've just been talking about this too many times of this year. We cannot afford to make mistakes. You cannot afford to get behind, especially to that No.48," Gordon said to the media. "We had the car to win this race. Even with the problem, it was going to work out for us. If we don't get that debris caution, we have a chance."
