Nissan proudly reveals that it now holds a Guinness world record for the fastest drift. A Nissan GT-R was able to run at a speed of 304.96 km/h (189.5 mph) with 30 degrees drift.

The achievement was confirmed on the official website of the Guinness World Records. It is reported that the Nissan GT-R Nismo driven by professional drifter Masato Kawabata broke the world records for three times by achieving the speed 273.39, 304.96 and 296.79 km/h on a 3 km-long airstrip in Fujairah International Airport, United Arab Emirates.

The Managing Director of Nissan Middle East Samir Cherfan stated that the Guinness World Records title achieved by the company for GT-R Nismo only proves that the vehicle is one of the best supercar there is. The said achievement also proves that Nissan is one of the car companies with great potential.

"Once again, Nissan has again broken a Guinness World Records title and has made international history in the UAE," Cherfan said. "The GT-R Nismo is one of the world's most iconic supercars, proving time and again the incredible breadth of its capabilities, and has clearly demonstrated its performance leadership by beating the best drift cars out there."

Kawabata has also demonstrated excellent drifting skills after setting the three record-breaking vehicle drifts. The driver was able to break the previous record and even surpassed the target speed of Nissan which is 186 mph. He is also the leading drift racer from the Tokyo team which is the main reason why he was chosen to drive GT-R, Autocar reports.

The world record for the fastest vehicle drift at 217 km/h (136 mph), previously belonged to the Toyota GT86 set by Polish rally driver Jakub PrzygoÅ„ski in September 2013.
