Land Rover will feature the original Land Rover Series 1 again after almost 70 years. The company will restore and bring back 25 of its 1948 off-roader, which will become available to the public at the Techno-Classica car show in Essen, Germany.
“The launch of the Reborn initiative represents a fantastic opportunity for customers to own a valuable and collectable automotive icon. Reborn showcases Land Rover Classic’s expertise in restoring and maintaining our loyal customers’ prized Land Rovers,” said Tim Hannig, director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic.
Auto Express reveals that the “Reborn” project is being conducted by Land Rover Classic, a group of experts who restore and maintain several famous Land Rover models. The team will choose 25 authentic original Series 1 vehicles which will be completely restored and then offered for sale.
Customers may choose a particular base vehicle and observe the restoration process by the Land Rover Classic team from beginning up to the end at the Classic workshop at the original Defender factory located in Solihull. Many experienced members from the old Defender production line will help in the restoration process of the 25 “Reborn” Series 1 cars.
Each model will be perfectly restored to the early 1948 specification using authentic parts. The process also includes five-period color finishes, namely Bronze Green, Light Green, Dove Grey, RAF Blue and Poppy Red.
The Telegraph reports that the 4x4 utility car will cost anywhere between $84,000 and $113,000, depending on the size of the chassis model, which will be either 80 inches or 86 inches. Customers who order now will have their car finished within a span of six to nine months.
The Land Rover Classic division previously sold a featured unrestored car which will undergo restoration under the Land Rover Reborn initiative.
According to Tony O’Keeffe of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, after the 25 “new” cars are restored and produced, the Classic workshop will also accept cars from customers to undergo restoration or general treatment.
In March 2016, Jaguar, Land Rover’s sister company, announced that it will make nine new examples of its popular XKSS sports car, which was originally produced in 1957. The XKSS is a “continuation” car, which are excellent replicas that incorporate new parts while following the original blueprints.
Jaguar Land Rover also recently renamed its Heritage business as Jaguar Land Rover Classic. More updates and details on the Techno-Classica car show and “Reborn” project are expected soon.
