Kalina NFR To Be The Fastest Production Vehicle Lada Ever Made

The automotive company Lada says that its brand new Kalina NFR hot hatchback is the fastest production vehicle the Russian car manufacturer has ever made.

Lada has revealed interesting details about the Kalina NFR, its latest creation. The car is considered as the fastest-ever production vehicle designed by the Russian automotive company.

Lada doesn't exactly have a good history of building fast cars or cars with any impressive performance. It seems that the Russian manufacturer aims to change its image, currently flexing its performance muscles with a racing version of Lada Vesta, in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).

Supporting the strategy of changing its marketing image comes also the announcement of the Kalina NFR. The new hot hatchback is a sporty version of the standard Kalina.

Considered as its fastest production car, the Kalina NFR features a 1.6-liter naturally-aspirated engine that will produce 114lb-ft (154Nm) of torque and 134hp (100kW) of power, according to Car Advice. Lada claims that the engine will give Kalina NFR a top speed of 126mph (203km/h) and an impressive 0-60mph (0-100km/h) time of 9.2 seconds.

Despite Russians' praise for their new Kalina NFR, these specs for a 1.6-liter engine are not very impressive. Toyota was getting out the same performance of their 1.6-liter engines back in the mid-1980.

Being aimed mainly at motorsport teams, the Kalina NFR could replace the Vesta, Lada's current WTCC weapon of choice. Vesta's engine produces only 78kW/148Nm in road-going spec, as reported by the same publication.

According to Lada cited by Motoring Box, the hatchback Kalina NFR new model features bigger and more efficient brakes than the base model, as well as a tuned suspension and steering system. The interior includes parking sensors, heated seats and mirrors and an audio system featuring a 7.0-inch display.

According to Lada, the Russian car maker will produce initially only 50 Kalina NFRs and all are likely be destined solely for track duties. The entry price tag for the Russian hatchback Kalina NFR is just US$12,139.
