Toyota has recalled 320,000 trucks and SUVs in order to fix a problem with their airbags that can present a safety issue.

The problem relates to side curtain shield airbags in these vehicles and was caused by improper programming in the airbag control computer, which the Japanese automakers said Tuesday could cause the airbags to activate unexpectedly and injure those in the car, according to CNBC.

Vehicles covered by the recall include the 2005-2006 Tundra and Seqouia, the 2003-2006 Land Cruiser, the 2004-2006 4-Runner, the 2003-2006 Lexus LX 470, and the 2004-2006 GX 470, the Associated Press noted.

Toyota spokeswoman Cindy Knight said that the company received reports of the airbag deploying, which lead an unspecified number of minor injuries that included scratches and ringing ears, resulting in the recall, Automotive News reported. She added that Denso Corp., a member of the Toyota Group that is 22 percent owned by Toyota, supplied the defective parts.

Toyota said that owners will be notified of the recall via email in early February, and it will have dealers replace the airbag control computer for free.

The recall follows a week after Toyota was revealed to be the world's biggest automaker of 2015, taking the title for the fourth year in a row and beating Volkswagen and General Motors in the process.
