Tesla's lineup of electric cars continues to expand, so it shouldn't be a surprise if the electric automaker decides to add a different kind of vehicle to its list, such as an electric truck.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk talked about the possibility of his company building a pickup truck powered by electricity in a recent interview at the StartmeupHK Festival in Hong Kong, Ubergizmo reported.

If the automaker were to go through with the idea, it would only add to the variety in its lineup, which includes the Model S luxury sedan, the Roadster, the Model X SUV and the upcoming Model 3 sedan.

"I think it is quite likely we will do a truck in the future," Musk said in the interview, according to BGR. "I think it's sort of a logical thing for us to do in the future."

The top three best-selling vehicles in the U.S. in both 2014 and 2015 were all pickup trucks, which presents another opportunity for Tesla to make even more money than it already does.

While an electric pickup sounds cool, Tesla is currently focusing on the Model 3, which is expected to have a starting price of $34,000 and will compete against General Motors' all-electric Chevrolet Bolt, according to Ubergizmo. The goal of the sedan will be to provide an electric car to those who can't afford today's $100,000 electric vehicles.

Tesla is expected to unveil the Model 3 in March, and Musk said that he still optimistic about how the vehicle will do, BGR noted.

"The key thing with the Model 3 is higher volume and lower price," he explained. "It is a smaller car and without quite as many bells and whistles as the Model S or X. But the goal is to have a very compelling, affordable and mass market electric vehicle, and I feel pretty good about that goal."
