GMC Releases Teaser For Detroit Auto Show, May Be All-New Acadia

The GMC Acadia may be getting a huge makeover just in time for next week's Detroit Auto Show.

General Motors released a teaser image on its Facebook page Thursday of what it claims to be the next generation of its GMC division, according to Autoblog.

While the photo only shows an LED taillamp signature on a clear rear end, high-tech features expected for the seasoned crossover utility vehicle (CUV) include a strong infotainment system with standards like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, optional all-wheel drive and V6 power.

The Acadia, which can seat up to eight people, made its debut in the auto world in 2006 as a 2007 model before getting refreshed for the 2013 model year, The Detroit News reported. Despite being an old car, the vehicle has been selling strong.

Analysts believe that an update is very necessary for the midsize SUV if it is to compete with the likes of the Ford Explorer, the Toyota Highlander, and a new Honda Pilot.

"If you're one of the older cars on the block... you tend to get left in the dust," said Akshay Anand, a senior analyst with Kelley Blue Book. "You do need fresh product."

"It's quite old," said Stephanie Brinley, senior analyst for IHS Automotive. "The segment here, technology is moving forward. It's time to update it."

GMC is expected to premiere a new vehicle Tuesday at the North American International Auto Show. While there's a chance that a 2017 Acadia will make its debut at the event, Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president for the GMC brand, wouldn't reveal in a recent interview with The Detroit News what would be unveiled in Detroit.

"We publicly said we're very ambitious around GMC, and our Detroit auto show also sets that direction," Aldred said.
