Uber's New Feature Aimed At Helping Drivers Make More Money

Uber's app has a new feature that gives drivers a chance to make more money while out giving rides.

The new feature, called Destinations, provides this opportunity by allowing drivers to pick up more passengers going in the same direction, reported Tech Times

The ride-sharing company opened Destinations up to car owners looking to make some extra money, according to Mashable. Any car owner can type their destination into the app twice a day, and it will find passengers headed in the same direction.

"Starting this week in the Bay Area, drivers will be able to set their destination twice a day when they want to be matched only with riders traveling in a similar direction," Uber said in a statement explaining the new feature. "Whether it’s commuting to the areas where rides are needed most, driving back home at the end of the day, or running errands around town, drivers can set their destination to earn fares that are along their route.”

The transportation company is testing Destinations in the San Francisco Bay Area first, noted Auto Evolution. Its competitor, Lyft, which is also based in San Francisco, already has a peer-to-peer ride-sharing option that connects passengers going in the same direction. The difference, however, is that Lyft allows its drivers to use the peer-to-peer feature three times a day.

While Lyft has been around for three years is operating in 65 U.S. cities, Uber is still a bigger company in comparison, having been around longer and grown 50 times larger.

Uber plans to roll out Destinations in other markets soon once the pilot program in San Francisco is finished.
