Tesla Motors has just received FCC approval for a new key fob that may be able to help you find your keys after you lose them.

The new filing hints at an updated model that supports Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), as opposed to the current model, which uses a 315MHz signal and doesn't possess any special high-tech features, according to SlashGear.

BLE support could be for a new feature, possibly a lost key finder since Tesla's currently has apps available for iOS and Android and the platforms' latest devices work with BLE.

The original fob has a unique appearance, as it looks just like the Model S sedan that it's designed for.

Other potential new features that could come with BLE support include a display or other indicator, as well as the abilities to connect to smartphones and exchange data, The Verge noted.

Tesla isn't the only automaker working on high-tech keys, as BMW has its own "display key" for its 7 Series that comes with a touchscreen and lets users adjust the temperature inside the car as well as control remote start and other features.

The FCC filing doesn't detail when Tesla will make the new key fob available, but there's the possibility that the fob will make its debut at the electric car maker's upcoming Model 3 unveiling.
