Katie Couric Partners With Michelin For National Teen Driver Safety Week (VIDEO)

Michelin North America and Katie Couric are kicking off National Teen Driver Safety Week (Oct. 18 to Oct.24) with the #SharingSafety campaign video featuring the veteran newswoman, USA Today reported.

Check out a video of the campaign below:

The tiremaker said in a press statement that it partnered with Couric to educate teens about driving safely. The #ShareingSafety campaign coincides with accounts from Couric's book, "The Best Advice I Ever Got," where celebrities, politicians and accomplished individuals share life lessons.

Katie Couric is a New York Times bestselling author, global news anchor for Yahoo news, and mother of two. The campaign is personal for Couric, who shares her driving advice and encourages other drivers to do the same across America.

Car crashes are the top cause of death for teens, with 2,614 teen drives dying in fatal crashes in 2013, according to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration. Fifteen percent of those crashes were due to improper tire pressure because many teenagers don't know how to check the tire pressure, noted Pete Selleck, the President of Michelin North America.

"We want to draw people into a national conversation about road safety during National Teen Driver Safety Week. Sharing even simple tips like how to maintain tires could mean the difference between life and death," Selleck said.

Here are some tips Michelin wants all drivers, including teens, to take away from the #SharingSafety campaign:

  • Eighty-one percent of drivers rank themselves as highly confident in their driving skills, but 66 percent felt unsafe when someone else was driving.
  • Sixty-nine percent of motorists have seen other drivers failing to follow safe driving practices.
  • Three out of four confess to being back-seat drivers.
