Chevrolet Corvette Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Against GM Over Engine Failures

A group of Corvette owners filed a class action lawsuit Wednesday against Chevrolet for engine failures.

While the current Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has engine problems, this is not the reason for the lawsuit, reported Auto Guide. The 19 owners are suing because the previous generation Corvette 427 and Z06 suffered from valve guide wear issues that lead to engine failure and emotional distress.

GM is no stranger to lawsuits, as the Detroit-based automaker made settlements earlier this year with victims of fatal accidents when the ignition abruptly cut off engine power and disable airbags, The New York Times reported

The company was allegedly aware of the issues with the Corvette valve guide wear but did not fix it because the remedy would not be cost effective, according to Road and Track.

Fox News reporter Gary Gastelu test drove the Z06 earlier this year, and the engine went out on him. Motor Trend also tested the Corvette Z06 in a race, and it finished dead last.

The lawsuit documents filed by the group of Corvette owners listed over 70 claims alleging that GM used the "wiggle method" to test the sports car valve guides and that the automaker stopped testing the valve because that would "lead to more repair and investigations than it wished to perform."

GM is aware of the problem but has yet to provide a solution.
