GM Recalls Hummers Due To Cabin Fires

General Motors is recalling 196,379 Hummer SUVs to fix a problem that is causing vehicle fires, according to Car And Driver.

After a reported 42 fires and three minor injuries, the Detroit-based automaker has decided to recall Hummer H3 models from 2006 to 2010, as well as Hummer HT3 models from 2009 to 2010. While the three injuries were described as minor burns, two of the three cars involved were destroyed by the fire. Of the 42 fires, 31 of them were reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, while 11 were reported to GM, Reuters reported.

Most of the recalled vehicles reside in the U.S., 164,993 to be exact. The remaining cars are located around Canada and Mexico.

Hummers are no longer being produced, as they were one of four brands General Motors scrapped after restructuring and a government-sponsored bankruptcy, according to Auto Week. A Chinese company tried to keep the Hummer brand alive, but it was not successful.

The Chevrolet Spark is being recalled as well, due to a software problem. The issue is involved with the OnStar navigation system, GM stated. The radio display can go blank, which can result in the driver being unaware of vehicle notifications such as safety warnings.
