Model X Update: Elon Musk Says Expect Deliveries by This Fall

Finally! Tesla has announced that it will start shipping out its Model X SUV within the next three to four months.

The news was announced by company CEO Elon Musk himself during Tesla's annual investors meeting this week, according to CNN Money.

People around the world have been patiently waiting for Tesla to finally release its new vehicle with falcon-wing doors. More than 20,000 reservations have been placed already for the Model X and people are getting restless.

Originally Tesla wanted to release its new ride 2013, but technical problems forced the company to push back production a number of occasions.

Musk has test driven the Model X himself, and if all goes swimmingly deliveries could start as early as this August. While some bugs still need to be worked out, like the aforementioned falcon-wing door and the second-row seats, Musk seems confident that his next vehicle will be even better than the Model S.

"It arguably may be a better SUV than the Model S is a sedan," said Musk at the meeting, according to Edmunds.

Musk has also been testing Tesla's Autopilot on a weekly basis, which is a similar system to the autopilot feature found in airplanes.

"The pilot is still expected to pay attention," he said. "That's true of the Autopilot we'll have. Several years from now, there will be Autopilot with redundant sensors so someone could go to sleep and wake up at their destination."
