Takata Recall: Mazda Calls Back 472,000 Vehicles With Faulty Air Bags

The issue:

Mazda announced two separate recalls on Thursday involving Mazda B-series trucks, Mazda6, RX-8 and Mazdaspeed6 vehicles made between 2003 and 2007.

The first recall is over faulty passenger side frontal air bags that could rupture when exposed to too much moisture over time and the second recall involves faulty dual-stage driver frontal air bag.

The cars:

 -2004-2006 Mazda B-series trucks

-2003-2008 Mazda6

-2004-2008 RX-8

-2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6

The Fix:

Dealers are being instructed to replace the passenger side frontal air bag inflator and driver's frontal air bag inflator in affected vehicles, free of charge to owners.

Injuries or Accidents:

No injuries or accidents have been linked to either recall yet. Overall though, more than 100 injuries and six deaths have been linked to faulty Takata air bags in the last decade.

Recall Date:

An official recall date has not been announced by Mazda yet. Owners are advised to keep updated on the recalls by accessing NHTSA's VIN Lookup Tool to find out more information.

Number of Models Affected:

The first recall involves 27,149 Mazda B-series trucks, according to the NHTSA. The second recall affects 444,907 Mazda6, RX-8, and Mazdaspeed6 vehicles.
